Marseille Rally Past Angers 2-1 at Half-Time in Ligue 1 Clash

Marseille went into the half-time break 2-1 ahead at Angers on Sunday in Ligue 1's seventh round, having come from behind at Stade Raymond-Kopa, according to RMC Sport's live coverage of the 15:00 kick-off. The visitors arrived three days after a 0-1 defeat to Olympiacos in the Europa League and were looking for a response. The match paired the 13th and 14th-placed sides in the table.

Why it matters

For Marseille, the fixture was a chance to steady a season that had just taken another knock in Europe. Bruno Genesio's team fell behind early in Angers but recovered before the interval, turning a difficult afternoon into a lead. The result at the break also mattered for Angers, who had started brightly and threatened to pull away from a Marseille side still finding its footing.

Angers strike first through Raolisoa

Angers took the lead from a move down the left. Sbai delivered a cross into the Marseille area and Raolisoa met it with a header that deflected off Kondogbia and beat De Lange, RMC Sport reported. It was a reward for a lively opening from the home side, which had already created the first opening of the match when Rolisoa's early cross from the left found no taker.

Marseille had begun with a high block, pressing Angers to stop them playing out from the back, but the approach left gaps. After the goal, the visitors pushed forward in search of an equaliser. Gouiri, operating on the left, was heavily involved, and Nnadi tried his luck twice in quick succession from crosses, only for the Angers defence to block both attempts.

Angers came close to doubling their advantage. Paixao found himself unmarked in the middle of the box but headed his chance off target, and the home side strung together a run of clear openings in a matter of seconds. Sbai caused repeated problems on the left, at one point beating Harit before whipping a ball into the Marseille box. Egan-Riley produced an important interception in the centre to stop Sbai when he broke towards goal.

Abdelli levels and Kamissoko turns it around

Marseille's equaliser came from Himad Abdelli, a former Angers player, who met the ball with a powerful header to bring the visitors level. RMC Sport noted that Abdelli chose not to celebrate out of respect for his old club. The goal changed the balance of the game: Marseille, who had been shaken by Raolisoa's opener, began to dominate possession and pressed for a second before the interval.

Gouiri forced a strong save from Lopes with a strike from around twenty metres, the Angers goalkeeper pushing the ball behind for a corner. From that corner, a young Marseille player rose to head home from close range and put the visitors in front just before the break, making it 2-1. L'Équipe had reported before kick-off that Kamissoko and Kondogbia would start for Marseille, with Aguerd and Angel Gomes named among the substitutes.

There were concerning scenes for Angers when Rolisoa stayed down after a Marseille corner, appearing to be in discomfort in his right leg and receiving treatment from the medical staff.

Marseille returned for the second half and threatened again early on, with their Brazilian winger active on the left and sending a shot wide of the Angers goal.

The match is being played as part of the seventh round of Ligue 1 fixtures. Marseille will want the second-half performance to match the recovery they produced before the break, while Angers, having led early, will need to respond to going behind at home.
